("we", "us", and "our") with respect to using our website and to downloading, installing or using the AudioRanger software application ("app"). If you do not agree to this privacy policy, then please do not submit any personal data to us.

1. Cookies we use on our website

None at all.

We do not use any cookies on our website. For this simple reason, you don't see any cookie banner on our website. Our website is completely functional even if cookies are completely disabled in your browser.

2. Personal data we collect when you visit our website

None at all.

Visiting our website is completely anonymous. This includes anonymizing all visiting IP addresses, as described below.

3. Anonymized data we collect when you visit our website

We collect the following anonymized statistical information when you visit our website. This data can not be associated with or traced back to an individual person. We use this anonymized data to conduct statistical analysis of the usage of our website.

  • Anonymized IPv4 addresses (the last 16 bits of the addresses are set to zeros).
  • Date and time of the visit.
  • Pages viewed on our website.
  • Rough geographic location (by country and city).
  • Browser type and language.
  • Device type (e.g. desktop, tablet, smartphone).
  • Operating system type and version.
  • Anonymized referring web page (query parameters are removed).

This anonymized data is solely collected, analyzed and stored on our own servers and is not disclosed to, collected by, or processed by any other third-party providers (like e.g. Google Analytics). This data is retained for 6 months and then deleted.

4. Third-party services we use on our website

None at all.

We do not use any social media trackers (or any other trackers) on our website. We do not use Google Analytics (or any other analytics tool hosted by a third party) on our website. We do not use Google Ads (or any other advertisement method) on our website. We do not use Google fonts (or any other remotely loaded fonts or data) on our website.

5. Third-party links contained on our website

Our website contains links to third-party websites. If you choose to visit any third-party websites, you may disclose personal data to these third-party websites. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of such third-party websites. The collection, use and disclosure of your data will be subject to the privacy policies of the third-party websites, and not to this privacy policy. We encourage you to read the privacy statements of any third-party websites you visit.

6. Personal data we collect when you use the free AudioRanger app

None at all.

Downloading, installing and using the free version of the AudioRanger app is completely anonymous. This includes anonymizing all client IP addresses, as described below.

7. Personal data we collect when you purchase and use the AudioRanger Pro version app

If you purchase and use the AudioRanger Pro version, we collect the following personal data from you, and for the following reasons:

  • Email address. This is required to send you the license key of the AudioRanger Pro version after the purchase. You will also receive the PDF invoice of your purchase per email.
  • Name and address. This is required to keep a record of customers who currently own a valid license of the AudioRanger Pro version.
  • Country. This is required to correctly consider applicable tax laws and other laws. In some countries (notably USA and Canada), the state, province or postal code may also be required to correctly consider applicable laws and taxes.
  • Payment data. This is required for processing your payment (and for processing a refund request, if applicable). Please note that the collection, processing and storage of payment data will be subject to our authorized payment processor company Stripe, which is handling the payments on our behalf. We do not collect, process, store or otherwise use the payment data ourselves, and we do not have access to personal payment details like e.g. credit card numbers. The retention period of payment data is subject to the payment processor company.
  • Any additional data which you choose to provide during the purchase. Please note that all such additional data is completely optional and you do not have to provide any of it.
  • The extent and date and time your license key is used. This is required to protect against misuse and license key sharing. This data is retained for 6 months and then deleted.

We will never sell, lend or otherwise profit from your personal data in any way.

Except where stated otherwise, this data is retained for as long as your AudioRanger Pro version license is valid (that is, for as long as you are our customer). If you want to invalidate your license, then please contact us at the email address listed on the "Contact" page on our website.

We anonymize all client IP addresses, as described below.

8. Anonymized data we collect when you use the AudioRanger app (either free or Pro version)

Some features of the AudioRanger app require internet access ("online features"). When such online features are used within either the free or the Pro version of the app, we collect the following anonymized statistical information. This data can not be associated with or traced back to an individual person. We use this anonymized data to conduct statistical analysis of the usage of our app.

  • Anonymized IPv4 addresses (the last 16 bits of the addresses are set to zeros).
  • Date and time when the online feature is used.
  • Server response time, in milliseconds.
  • Used AudioRanger app version.
  • Number of songs which are processed by the online feature (but not which songs are processed, see below).
  • Rough geographic location (by country and city).
  • Operating system type and version.

This anonymized data is solely collected, analyzed and stored on our own servers and not disclosed to, collected by, or processed by any other third-party providers. This data is retained for 6 months and then deleted. If you should prefer to use the app offline, then you can completely disable internet access within the app settings. In this case, you can not use any of the online features.

We do not collect any of the following data (not even anonymized):

  • Which songs are processed, tagged, searched or played.
  • Which or how many songs are stored on your computer or within your music library.
  • Which or how many album artwork or other data is downloaded.

9. Personal data we collect when you send us an email

If you send us an email, we will collect the data contained within that email (including subject line, text content and sender email address). This is required so that we can respond to your email, refer to previous emails which you may have sent us, and to look up your order based on your email address (if applicable). All incoming emails which you send to us are retained for 1 year and then deleted, unless there is a specific reason why an email needs to be retained longer.

10. Third-party websites we use within our app

The app enables access to third-party websites. Such access is completely optional and can be disabled within the app settings. If you choose to use third-party websites within the app, you may disclose your data to those third parties. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of such third-party websites. The collection, use and disclosure of your data will be subject to the privacy policies of the third-party websites, and not to this privacy policy. We encourage you to read the privacy statements of any third-party websites you use.

We currently enable access to the following third-party websites within our app:

  • MusicBrainz (https://musicbrainz.org). Provides a music metadata database and makes it available to the public. This website is operated by the non-profit MetaBrainz Foundation. Their privacy policy can be found at https://metabrainz.org/privacy
  • AcoustID (https://acoustid.org). Provides a music fingerprinting algorithm and database which allows to identify unknown audio files by searching for a fingerprint of the actual audio contents. Their privacy policy can be found at https://acoustid.biz/privacy
  • Cover Art Archive (https://coverartarchive.org). Provides a collection of album cover images. This website is operated by the Internet Archive, which is an official public digital library of the state of California (USA). Their privacy policy can be found at https://archive.org/about/terms.php

We do not track which or how many data is downloaded from third-party websites. However, you may disclose your data directly to those third-party websites, as stated above.

11. Legal basis for collecting and processing personal data

Our legal grounds we rely on to collect and process your personal data are as follows:

  • To meet our contractual obligations. Most of our data processing is to provide our services to you as our customer, as contractually mandated by the end user license agreement ("EULA") of the AudioRanger app.
  • To serve our legitimate interests. In some cases, we handle data on the ground that it serves our legitimate interests in ways that are not overridden by the interests or fundamental rights and freedoms of the affected individuals. Our legitimate interests are protecting against misuse, fraud and spam.
  • To comply with legal obligations. In some cases, we need to collect and use data to comply with legal obligations.
  • In consent with you. In all other situations, we handle data only on the basis of your consent. Where we handle your data on the basis of consent, you have the right to withdraw your consent. Please contact us at the email address listed on the "Contact" page on our website if you want to withdraw your consent for any specific data handling.

12. How we use your data

We use your personal data for the following purposes:

  • To process payments (and refund requests, if applicable). The payments are processed by our authorized payment processor company Stripe, which is handling the payments on our behalf.
  • To keep a record of customers who currently own a valid license of the Pro version of the AudioRanger app.
  • To provide customer support.
  • To send you information about your transactions and relationship with us.
  • To protect against misuse, fraud and spam.
  • To send you other communications to which you have subscribed to (if any).

We use anonymized data for the following purposes:

  • To conduct statistical analysis of the usage of our website.
  • To conduct statistical analysis of the usage of our app.

13. When we disclose your data

We disclose your data only for the following reasons:

  • To process payments (and refund requests, if applicable). The payments are processed by our authorized payment processor company Stripe, which is handling the payments on our behalf.
  • To host our server infrastructure. For technical reasons, we necessarily have to disclose your information to the hosting provider company who performs such services as data storage and hosting the servers on our behalf. Our hosting provider company is Hetzner, which is based in the European Union and is thus obligated to the very strict rules of the European General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR").
  • To comply with legal obligations. We will disclose your data if required to do so by law, if necessary to comply with legal processes, or if necessary to protect our own rights.

Except in the situations listed above, we do not disclose your personal data in any way. We will never sell, lend or otherwise profit from your personal data in any way.

14. Your choices and data subject rights

Individuals in the European Union and possibly other jurisdictions have various legal rights with respect to the collection and use of their data. Within the European Union, these rights are mandated by the European General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR"). Extending beyond these legal obligations, we grant the following rights to all individuals regardless of their jurisdiction. Your rights are as follows:

  • Obtain information of whether we hold certain data about you.
  • Access any data we hold about you.
  • Demand the correction of any data we hold about you.
  • Demand the deletion of any data we hold about you.
  • Object to our handling of any data we hold about you.
  • Restrict our processing of any data we hold about you.
  • Withdraw any consent you may have provided to handle your data (e.g. unsubscribe from any communications to which you have subscribed to).

Hence, it may be necessary to invalidate your AudioRanger license key and to terminate your end user license agreement ("EULA") in order to fulfill your request (e.g. when you demand that we delete all the data we hold about you).

Individuals in the European Union and possibly other jurisdictions have the legal right to go directly to the relevant supervisory or legal authority, but we encourage you to contact us so that we may resolve your concerns directly and promptly.

15. International transfers

All of our own computer systems and servers are based in the European Union. This means that all of your data is protected by the very strict rules of the European General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR").

16. Security measures

We have implemented technical, physical, and organizational security measures to protect against the loss, misuse, and alteration of your data. However, we can not and do not guarantee that these measures will prevent every unauthorized attempt to access, use, or disclose your data since despite our efforts, no computer system can ever be completely secure. If your personal data is (or is likely to be) divulged, damaged or lost, we will immediately take remedial measures, inform the users in a timely manner and report to the competent government agencies as required by applicable laws.

17. Children

Our website and app are not directed at children under the age of 16. If we become aware that we have collected personal data from children under the age of 16, then we will delete this data and invalidate all legal agreements which may have been agreed upon in that context.

18. Changes to this privacy policy

We will continue to evaluate this privacy policy as we update and expand our website and app, and we may make changes to the privacy policy accordingly. We encourage you to check the privacy policy on our website periodically for updates to stay informed on how we collect, use and share your data.
